I would like a better discovery for Bear Blog
And that's why I made a suggestion to Herman
Discovery is a key element for a flourishing small web and blogosphere. Right now, we have 3 ways to do it and, in my opinion, they are not good enough.
Diving into "Most recent" is such an endeavor. It does take effort to go through, trying to guess what the posts are about just by the title, and then there are posts that are literally or virtually blank.
The current "Search" functionality is barebones, it only looks at the title of the posts. It is not a case of "inaccurate titles that fail to summarize the content", creative titles don't even try to do that and that's a completely legit thing.
And at last, there is the "Trending" trench. There have been a handful of posts about it (sorry I don't feel like listing them all, I would have to use Search haha) debating on whether it is a good or bad thing, discussing terms as "echo chambers" and questioning the real reasons for people to blog. Whatever the answers to those questions is, I think it is hard that such feature can feel fully aligned with the spirit and coziness of Bear Blog.
We know the formula behind it, it is so simple, so innocent, but next to the human psychology and being influenced by other means of discovery (the outer internet) it feels almost naive. I don't intend to be mean or criticize, and I see how rewarding popularity is good to promote "popular quality", and to make easy for visitors to find that shiny stuff, but we know there is more.
All I want for Christmas is a discovery for the cozy, little or just new blogs.
